01. What does the Storage Analyser read, and what does it change?
It reads and reports. It deletes nothing, archives nothing and moves no file. What to clear out is a decision you take with the report in front of you.
02. Does it count version history?
Yes, and separately, because that is usually where the surprise is. A library holding a modest amount of content can be holding several times that again in versions of the same documents.
03. What permissions does the Storage Analyser need?
Read access across every library it measures, which in practice means a global reader plus SharePoint administrator. Read-only is the whole point, so nothing it does requires write access.
04. Will running it slow anything down?
It walks libraries in sequence and shows up in the audit log, so tell your IT provider first. It changes nothing, but a process touching every site looks exactly like what their monitoring exists to flag.
05. Is the Storage Analyser a trial for something paid?
